It has three aims:
- to provide a national platform for a serious contribution to questions of social and penal reform
- to make significant recommendations to policy makers
- to be written, delivered and promoted in such a way as to engage wide public interest.
Our 2008 Longford Lecture will take place on Wednesday November 12 ast 6.30pm at Church House, Westminster. This year, as a one-off, the trustees have decided to stage a debate, chaired by Jon Snow on the theme 'We Can't Build Our Way Out of Britain's Prisons' Crisis' The four principal speakers will be Sir Ian Blair, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, Jason Warr, former Longford Scholar, now a Cambridge criminologist, and Phil Wheatley, director of NOMS, the National Offender Management Service. Contributions from the floor will be welcomed on this pressing area of national policy.

The Longford Trust makes no charge for tickets. The Longford Lecture is open to all regardless of means. All are welcome. The trust’s work is supported entirely by voluntary donations. Consequently, a contribution of £10 per ticket to cover costs would be gratefully received.
