Raising money for the Longford Trust
Some of our brilliant supporters contact us and want to volunteer to raise money for the Longford Trust through their own efforts. Nothing makes us happier. People like Harry Wain, pictured above, who ran the Richmond Marathon in September and exceeded his target of £1,500 to support our scholarship programme. Is there a challenge you would like to undertake to help us help more young ex- and serving prisoners have a second chance through education? If so, please contact Jill Dale.
The McIlvaines (pictured right, mother and daughter, Middle Brook and Lil’ Brookie, to give them their family names) also planned to run a marathon to support us. The Mount Desert Island half-marathon was to take place this autumn in Maine on the east coast of the United States. The event was sadly cancelled; however, the McIlvaines ran the equivalent distance for us but not in a formal race.

And continuing the running theme – though, of course, you can do lots of other things to raise money for us as well as running – our trustee, Alex Fletcher (pictured right), inspired by the individuals above, climbed all the peaks over 1,000 feet in the Acadia National Park in Maine. The total distance equalled that of a marathon and the amount of climb was just over 7,000 feet which he completed in one day in September.
