Raising money for the Longford Trust

Man in baseball cap and grey sweatshirt giving a thumbs up with medial around his neckWhen our brilliant supporters volunteer to raise money for us through their own efforts, nothing makes us happier! People like Tim Kerr (pictured above and right), a former scholar and now one of our trustees, who raised £1,500 by doing the Great North Run in September 2025.  ‘Like many with a drug problem,’ he explains, ‘in prison I took to running. Laps of the perimeter of the prison have morphed into running half marathons every so often.’ Is there a challenge YOU would like to undertake to help us help more young ex- and serving prisoners have a second chance through education?  If so, please contact Chris Walters.

Go, Marine!

Another runner who has made a difference is Marine Franklin. She raised £600 for us by doing a 10k run in May 2025. ‘The Longford Trust is a charity very close to my heart: focussing on the rehabilitation and education of young people who have been in prison.’ Thank you for any donation,’ she wrote. ‘I did my best to cross the finish line as quickly as I could!  Our thanks to you, Marine.

Trustee legwork

Alex Fletcher supporting Longford TrustContinuing the running theme – though, of course, you can do lots of other things to raise money for us as well as running – our trustee, Alex Fletcher (pictured right), climbed all the peaks over 1,000 feet in the Acadia National Park in Maine. The total distance equalled that of a marathon and the amount of climb was just over 7,000 feet which he completed in one day.
