Raising money for the Longford Trust

Some of our brilliant supporters contact us and want to volunteer to raise money for the Longford Trust through their own efforts. Nothing makes us happier.

People like Tim Kerr (pictured above and right), a former scholar and now one of our trustees.

Tim is aiming to raise at least £500 for the Trust by doing the Great North Run in September 2025. ‘Like many with a drug problem, in prison I took to running. Laps of the perimeter of the prison have morphed into running half marathons every so often.

‘So on 7th September, I will again leave Newcastle, but this time on foot. I’ll be crossing the Tyne Bridge with the 60,000 others running the Great North Run 2025, and I want to give something back to the charity which helped get me here.’

Tim has set up a Just Giving page for this event. If you are able to sponsor him, any donations would be very much appreciated.

Is there a challenge YOU would like to undertake to help us help more young ex- and serving prisoners have a second chance through education?  If so, please contact Chris Walters.

Go, Marine!

Marine after her 10km run

Another runner who has made a difference is Marine Franklin. She raised £600 for us by doing a 10k run on 31 May.

‘Initially running a 10k was something that was nothing more than a bit of filler on my ’30 Before 30 List’, and indeed all things being equal, I should complete this 10km a month before my 30th birthday.

‘Now, however, the run feels a lot more significant. Since starting my training, I’ve become more focussed on this, and have devoted more time and effort on this than anything else on my list. Even more importantly, the Longford Trust is a charity very close to my heart: focussing on the rehabilitation and education of young people who have been in prison. Thank you for any donation. I’ll do my best to cross the finish line as quickly as I can!

Our thanks to you, Marine. To congratulate her, go to Marine’s Just Giving page

Trustee legwork

Alex Fletcher supporting Longford TrustAnd continuing the running theme – though, of course, you can do lots of other things to raise money for us as well as running – our trustee, Alex Fletcher (pictured right), climbed all the peaks over 1,000 feet in the Acadia National Park in Maine. The total distance equalled that of a marathon and the amount of climb was just over 7,000 feet which he completed in one day.
